Taking into account the circumstances and the loss of trust in the coach of the Polish National Team, I have decided to resign from playing in the Polish National Team until he is the coach - Robert Lewandowski informed on platform X.

On Sunday evening, Robert Lewandowski announced that he would be resigning from playing in the Polish national team as long as Michał Probierz remains the coach.

"I hope I will be able to play for the best fans in the world again," wrote Lewandowski.

"Lewy" announced his decision shortly after announcing that Piotr Zielinski was the new captain of the team . Taking away the armband from Lewandowski was the coach's decision.

"The coach personally informed Robert Lewandowski, the entire team and the training staff about his decision," the Łączy Nas Piłka post on the X platform said.

Lewandowski has been the full-time captain of the national team since 2014, when he took the armband from Jakub Błaszczykowski by then-coach Adam Nawałka. The 36-year-old FC Barcelona striker has held the position 93 times, a record for the Polish national team.

The Polish players traveled to Helsinki on Sunday for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Finland. Lewandowski did not take part in the week-long training camp in Katowice. He explained his absence as fatigue from the hardships of the league season.

As a result, he did not play in Friday's friendly match against Moldova, which was also Kamil Grosicki's farewell match. The White and Reds won 2-0, and "Grosik" spent the last 32 minutes in the squad on the pitch.
